We have a great opportunity for an Indirect Tax Manager to join our team based in Birmingham, reporting to the UK Head of Tax. You will be the internally recognised expert, responsible for ensuring UK VAT, Customs & Excise, environmental tax and employment tax compliance in an accurate and timely manner. You will manage internal and external stakeholders and provide technical advice to the wider business. We offer hybrid working.
Your responsibilities
- Key to success in this role, will be your technical expertise, attention to detail and ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders including senior management, external advisors, HMRC and peers within industry.
- It will be your responsibility to manage all aspects of the UK group’s Indirect Taxes (VAT, Customs & Excise duties, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, Landfill Tax, Climate Change Levy/Carbon Price Support and Aggregates Levy) compliance processes including the review and filing of tax returns and managing the tax payment process, ensuring that the business is tax compliant at all times.
- You shall work closely with the business partners to understand their issues and provide planning and advisory support for all UK Indirect tax related business queries, projects and restructuring activities.
- You would be responsible for the management of all UK Indirect tax risks, HMRC enquiries and audits, respond to HMRC consultations and lead on the engagement with relevant industry bodies.
- You shall monitor tax legislation and case law developments in order to advise business partners of tax law changes and implement appropriate new processes.
- You will undertake process reviews and implement digital process improvements including UK support for transformation/implementation of new digital systems.
- You would support the UK Payroll function with employment tax issues, review employment tax returns and provide the business with support for IR35 compliance in collaboration where necessary with external advisors.
- You shall support the development of other team members and support the UK Head of Tax where appropriate on tax governance and other Indirect Tax related issues.
Your profile
Essential
- Tax Qualification.
- Proven experience with an attention to detail mindset and technically competent knowledge of VAT, Customs & Excise duties and environmental taxes gained within an international accountancy or law firm, or within a major corporate group.
- Strong communication skills with a proven ability to place tax in a business context and explain technical concepts to non-tax people.
- A proactive, attention to detail mindset and willingness to learn new skills.
Desirable:
- Chartered Institute of Tax qualified.
- Experience of UK employment taxes.
- Basic knowledge of corporation tax, sufficient to be able to identify situations where the Direct Tax Manager needs to be made aware.
