Your responsibilities
As a leading owner and operator Energy company, Uniper has set a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040 for its European operations. To support this energy transition, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a geo-environmental specialist within our Environmental Services team based at the Uniper Technologies Centre. We are looking for an individual with practical experience of Geo-Environmental Phase 1 Desk Studies and Phase 2 Site investigations together with the preparation of factual and interpretive reports and the scoping and supervision of associated site-work, as well as experience on Remediation and Verification strategies to decontaminate land and experience with groundwater monitoring for permit compliance and due diligence. You will be required to provide consenting support across all stages of energy infrastructure projects including feasibility studies, planning and permitting applications, delivery of planning conditions and environmental permit requirements and support for demolition. Your role will entail a particular focus on supporting the development of Uniper’s low carbon projects including hydrogen production, Carbon Capture and Storage and biogas. There will be an opportunity for the successful candidate to gain wider environmental impact assessment experience working alongside a team of technical environmental and engineering specialists.
- Technical delivery of Phase 1 contaminated land risk assessments and scoping and supervision of Phase 2 assessments in accordance with Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and UK Government guidance to support the project lifecycle of new low carbon energy projects.
- Working with other technical specialists on the production of technical specifications for ground contamination and water quality investigations.
- Managing consultants and contractors, including the supervision of site investigation studies: planning, drilling, sampling and testing, and ensuring all investigations are undertaken following relevant health and safety requirements.
- Preliminary advice on, and review of, land remediation and verification strategies.
- Leading on groundwater monitoring programmes across key Uniper land holdings as required by permit conditions or for permit surrender. Delivering periodic reporting as required by internal Uniper site management and regulatory requirements.
- Working closely with our project and engineering teams to advise and inform on the development of projects within the context of relevant regulation, communicating contaminated land risks.
- Managing consultants and contractors in the preparation of other Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) technical reports, such as hydrology and flood risk assessments, and site drainage.
- Identifying planning requirements, managing the EIA process, and supporting statutory stakeholders.
- Support for negotiating applications, permit/licence variations and surrenders.
In addition to geo-environmental aspects, the role offers the opportunity for involvement in a wider range of environmental work, including assessing the health, safety and environmental implications of new low carbon technologies, managing the production of scoping documents, EIAs and planning applications and participating in Uniper’s asset improvement and environmental research programmes.
