At Uniper, we have an engaging and dynamic opportunity for an Engineering Student Placement who has an Electrical or Controls and Instrumentation bias, to gain valuable hands-on experience at Connah's Quay Power Station. This is an exciting chance to take the step-up into employment and develop both personally and professionally in a challenging but rewarding environment.
Your responsibilities
Part of a dynamic engineering team meeting the technical challenges of maintaining and improving plant performance, through utilising theoretical knowledge you've gained in your studies with hands-on, practical experience.
If given the role, several suitable projects will be assigned to you, and it will be your responsibility to complete these, with support from the team, to a high standard during your placement at Connah’s Quay Power Station.
Post employment you will be fully onboarded and introduced to your new colleagues to make you feel part of the team.
Your initial activities will include spending time with the different teams on site to develop an understanding of each team’s contribution to the success of the power station. This will include:
- Maintenance Team: Ensuring the day-to-day maintenance is delivered to the highest technical and safety standards which will provide you with experience of several different engineering disciplines.
- Engineering Team: Planning for long term strategic engineering activities including major planned outages/shutdowns and projects.
- Production Team: Understanding how the power Station is operated and how all the systems link together.
Following these initial introductions, you will form part of the Engineering team, through to the end of your placement and will be involved in:
- The planning, development and safe execution of a range of works in a large complex industrial environment, across a number of technical areas.
- Working with lots of different people, interacting with our managers and executive team.
- Supporting the development of low carbon, sustainable solutions.
- Utilising and developing a range of additional skills beyond your current technical capabilities, including safety, contractor management, commercial awareness, management of change processes and stakeholder management.
- Please note this role is based on-site Mon-Fri 08:30-16:30.

Your profile
An Engineering Student will be:
- Studying in an Electrical / Electrical, Control & Instrumentation field. Working towards a degree level qualification in Engineering.
- Knowledge of high and low voltage distribution systems and/or DCS/PLC control systems would be advantageous.
- Enthusiastic, passionate and inquisitive with the dedication to achieve a career in engineering.
- Confident in using Microsoft packages with good analytical and commercial skills; a knowledge of working with spreadsheets or databases would be useful.
- An organised individual with good time management and able to work to strict deadlines.
